Personal Statement
Decorative vessels in silver created on a one-off basis and art craft orientated, have become the major output of my work since I came to Britain. With my deep interest in fluent expressions of nature, I pursue new imagery in silver with a wide spectrum of expression. My work can be interpreted as the embodiment of an intuitive sense of organic abstraction, whilst alluding to functional tradition. To chance impulses from nature and adopt such inspiration in my design are the most intuitive steps in my creation. Once I sense something creative, there is no way of resisting the urge to express it in silver. It is always an adventure to work the material directly from the beginning. It allows me to be very creative. I call this method 'thinking through making' or 'sensing through creating.' In addition I have achieved the pliability of clay by developing my own hammering method. It is exceptional. Instead of beating the metal over a
cast iron
stake as usual, I often form the silver in the air or over any suitable object. Most importantly it allows me to be natural in manipulating the material as though I were using my fingertips to push and pull the silver into shape.
