Personal Statement
Whilst exploring the formal aspects of making in terms of process, one of the themes in my work is around decay and transformation and its relationship to the natural. Through decay I look at 'nature'. These works include the series 'Fish and Form', 'On the Edge', and 'Resonating'. While 'Decoration of the Rim' looks at the 'natural' transformation of the man-made by man, 'Heads and Heads' looks at transformation as perhaps unnatural.
My medal 'No Words' is made as part of the series 'Still Life-Dead Nature', in response to world events. The medal remains a fitting medium for comment. This medal shows a flower in its open form on one side and its closed form on the other. The rim is marked with the date 2001. I have tried to make this medal 'No Words' precious and jewel like to hold much like a flower is to see.
'Still Life-Dead Nature' looks at the interplay between the perfection yet fragility inherent in all life. The subsequent works include 'Master Nature' and 'Give and Take' made during an artist’s residency in Kremnica, Slovakia.
