Personal Statement
JEAN SCOTT-MONCRIEFF makes jewellery in silver and high carat gold – classic geometric forms with an emphasis on fine detail and texture. Incorporating pearls and gemstones to add contrast to the lustrous quality of unpolished gold and silver. Her interests are form and surface decoration: experimenting with techniques of fusing tiny fragments of gold onto silver. She is also developing ways of making large, hollow forms, to achieve sculptural, wearable pieces. Her work is influenced by ancient cultures and tribal artefacts. A recent visit to the Villa Giulia in Rome has renewed her interest in classical designs from antiquity and her admiration for their fine craftsmanship.
