Personal Statement
Born in Japan, I moved to England in 1988 where I studied jewellery making at the London Guildhall University. I combine the primary process of European jewellery technique with the aesthetic of the Japanese tradition of minimalism. In my collections, I create sculptural forms using both precious and non-precious materials with my own recipe of powdered stone and resin. I make natural pebbles that are held secure with silver or gold. Based on the philosophy, which is also my theme, is tranquil movement and the serene moment. I am attracted to tactile forms; the softness of the shape and the feel of the surface which has driven me to the search for serenity within myself. Focusing on these experiences has influenced my design with a function of wearability. And I hope to somehow give calmness and relaxation to the wearer.
