Personal Statement
I am inspired by botanical forms especially new growth in the spring and I delight in producing beautiful and innovative articulated jewellery. Using gold and silver, incorporating semi precious beads, gem stones and pearls to create sinuous, tactile feminine designs. The emphasis is on pure form rather than surface pattern. I choose shapes for their beauty and simplicity, designing pieces to be viewed from all angles; beads are often used as an integral part of the mechanics as well as for show, and catches are often hidden. I strive to design highly individual necklaces and bracelets with complementing pieces that are not strung in the conventional sense, but are linked using different methods of articulation. For example I use a ball and socket in my articulated pod bracelets where a pearl is the ball which is gently captured in a pod socket that allows complete freedom of movement giving its smooth elegant forms a wonderful tactile quality. It was one of these articulating pod bracelets that I won my first gold award, in the ‘Goldsmith’s Craftsmanship and Design Awards, 2001’. I hope I achieve to produce classic feminine designs that are easy to wear and make the wearer feel special.
