My current work explores containment and volume and investigates light and surface pattern. I want to create complex forms, which can engage on an artistic level, but retain some reference to function.

I am fascinated by the patina and shadow of age as well as the sweeping openness of modernity. My intention is to attempt a subtle combination of the two, through surface texturing on metal, using rolling, etching and mechanical processes of sanding, filing and scraping, to enliven the forms.

Physical connection with technique and material is very important to me; allowing the behaviour of metal, and the making process to play a role in dictating the outcome of a piece.

I see beauty in irregularity. The play of light and shadow over angular surface, overlapping planes and transposed layers creates dynamism and movement.

I am particularly attracted to groupings of objects. Relationships between forms can be used as a metaphor for the exploration of social constructs, human interaction, and the symbiotic relationships evident in nature and the physical landscape.

I hope to convey a feeling of metamorphosis; that the objects belong together but are merely working on altered perspectives, like structures in a landscape or cityscape.
